Manana Manana, the winner of the 2006 Doncaster Best Bar None Best Bar award was the venue of choice for Doncaster’s licensees at the Champagne launch of the 2007 awards on Tuesday 4th September.
Local actor Chris Walker, best known for his recent roles in Coronation Street and Playing The Field, hosted the launch. Licensees and guests learned about the successes and achievements of Doncaster Best Bar None over the past year and its plans for the future.
Guest speakers included Chief Inspector Iain Chorlton and Mel Haynes from the BII. Mel, who informed the licensees about the new collaboration between BBN, BII and the Home Office, said “A new BBN board has been formed and carries representatives from key trade bodies and from existing BBN schemes, including Andy Constantine from right here in Doncaster”. The board met for the first time at the end of August.
Best Bar None was launched in Doncaster last September and resulted in 38 Town Centre venues gaining accreditation from the scheme, which focuses on the safe and responsible management of licensed premises, with the ultimate intention of offering and maintaining a safer, more welcoming, attractive and lively town.
With last years Town Centre based project showing such a high success rate Doncaster Evening Economy Partnership has decided to double the geographical area and amount of venues that are eligible for entering. Plans are also being made to eventually roll the scheme borough wide.
Doncaster Best Bar None has provided 6 training courses over the past 12 months, which have helped 120 managers, staff and licensing officers to deliver a better service to customers.
All of the above coupled with the hard work being carried out by the licensees and Pubwatch have helped to ensure that Doncaster is not only the best night out in South Yorkshire but also the safest. |
