The Doncaster Evening Economy Partnership (DEEP) is a multi organisational partnership, which was formed in November 2005 with a mandate from the Doncaster Strategic Partnership to develop the nighttime economy in Doncaster.
The partnership is funded for 2 years by the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund and includes representatives from South Yorkshire Police, Doncaster Council, Doncaster Primary Care Trusts, South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive, First, Doncaster Pub watch, CAMRA, Licensed Victuallers and Community Groups.
The partnership is leading on many town centre projects, which aim to make Doncaster a safer place to visit at night. Initiatives underway will encourage a more cosmopolitan atmosphere by improving street lighting, increasing CCTV, pedestrianisation of busy areas at weekends, and the introduction of the Best Bar None Scheme. Other aspects of the project include, Operation Alligator, a partnership between South Yorkshire Police and the Council, which has delivered increased pro-active policing on the streets, the introduction of Section 30 Dispersal Orders and Designated Public Place Orders and the Challenge 21 initiative had it's national launch in Doncaster by the British Beer and Pub Association, this was in recognition of the work carried out by DEEP. Finally the introduction, in conjunction with First, of a late night bus service to six areas of the borough.
Doncaster’s 2006/07 crime statistics show reductions in almost all categories of crime. In particular, violent crime was down by 13.1 per cent with more serious violent crime down by 44.3 per cent. This can be partly attributed to the DEEP initiatives, which focus on the busy evening economy in Doncaster. |
