Best Bar None is a DEEP sponsored initiative that rewards local pubs, clubs and bars for achieving a high standard of customer care, safety awareness and the promotion of responsible drinking.
The aim is to establish a benchmark across all premises taking part and reward their commitment to the scheme. Any business taking part in the scheme that reach an accredited standard can display a plaque showing their commitment but the few that go the extra mile could win an overall best premise competition, highlighted at an awards ceremony with local and national media coverage. The initiative is also being sponsored by such illustrious companies as Atteys Solicitors, John Smiths and First Buses. The scheme simply would not have become as highly regarded without the involvement of such prestigious businesses.
The scheme benefits everyone taking part. Accredited premises are officially recognized as being a customer friendly establishment, encouraging more trade and lower insurance premiums. Customers can feel more secure in the knowledge that they are in the presence of staff who have met stringent standards in the way they self-police their premises. Licensees can also demonstrate a mature and healthy attitude to responsible and safer drinking habits. This in turn will help promote Doncaster as a lively, vibrant, multi-cultural town and above all safe town to visit and enjoy a night out.
It was very encouraging that so many licensees attended the event, recognizing the fact that the scheme can benefit them immensely. It’s not just publicans and licensees who will benefit though; many other town centre businesses will see an upturn in trade and customer traffic. As Bob Carlisle from the events main sponsor, Atteys Solicitors puts it: “Atteys is pleased to be associated with Doncaster’s Best Bar None initiative and is committed helping ensure that the project is not only a resounding success, but will have a positive impact upon the town-centre”
Each registered entrant received their welcome packs with details of how to achieve accreditation. The Best Bar None strategy is not to single out any one strength or weakness but to take a more holistic approach and look at individual entrants achievements as a whole. This approach has meant that all those involved have welcomed the scheme whole-heartedly and have committed to going that extra yard to make a difference.
The winners of the Best Bar None campaign will be announced at a lavish awards ceremony in Doncaster. Although there can be only so many winners per category, everyone taking part will be hoping to achieve accreditation level to boost their business.
As Licensee of Edwards bar on Hallgate said: "This is a really good initiative It is important that customers are aware of the work that is being done behind the scenes and that due diligence is being carried out by licensees.”
What all this means to the Doncaster drinker or casual visitor is that they can be confident when out and about that the pub or club they happen to be, if accredited, will be looking after them just as much as the police. They can relax and be assured they are in the presence of trained individuals who take pride in their workplace and commitment to customer service. Doncaster is the first town or city in South Yorkshire to adopt a campaign such as Best Bar None and reaffirms its aim to be one of the most progressive, cosmopolitan and safe areas in the country.
