Doncaster Racecourse played host to the third annual Doncaster Best Bar None annual awards ceremony on Monday 19 January.
The awards night saw the trade celebrate the cream of Doncaster’s bars, pubs and clubs.
The overall 2008 Doncaster Best Bar None award went to St Leger Tavern, better known as “Biscuit Billy’s” and was presented by Chief Executive of BII and National Best Bar None, Neil Robertson.
Kerry Simpson the manager of the St. Leger expressed her delight at scooping the title. I was a triple night of celebration for St Leger, as they also claimed the 2008 Best Pub award and the Doncaster Free Press “Friendliest Atmosphere Award”.
Miss Simpson said: “We are thrilled to have won the overall Best Bar None award. It’s an acknowledgment of the work we’ve done to make improvements to the way we operate. And to claim the Best Pub and Friendliest Atmosphere awards on the same evening makes it an amazing celebration!
"I’m so proud of our staff, who work hard to ensure our customers enjoy visiting Biscuit Billy's. This is an award which reflects all of their efforts, as well as the work of the venue itself.”
Manana Manana won the 2008 Best Bar award for the third consecutive year, beating Che Bar into second place. Walkabout claimed the club of the year, with the Keepmoat Stadium scooping the leisure venue title. Community pub awards went to the Boy and Barrel (West and North) and Nordest (South and East).
Deputy Mayor Stuart Exelby said: “Since the launch of Doncaster Best Bar None in 2006, the scheme has gone from strength to strength. It gives me great pride to see the logo emblazoned around the entrance to venues in around the town.
“Congratulations go to all of the winners and runners-up. They have demonstrated that they want to provide Doncaster with a thriving town centre which puts the safety of customers first.”
The night, which was hosted by Hallam FM and sponsored by John Smiths and Britvic was attended by over 300 licensees and guests, and the evening raised £2,855, which will be donated to Hallam FM’s Cash for Kids charity.
